| Edit | Del All New judging system...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was just wondering...

What does everyone think of how the new judging system is affecting the skaters' spins?

I am personally really bothered by how the skaters pretty much HAVE to include the change of edge variation in almost every spin they do (besides a layback, thank goodness) ...

On this video (and others), we can see Brian who jumps on several occasions as a left-handed person.

Did I miss a trick or I did not understand anything??!

Sur cette video( et d'autres), on voit Brian qui saute à plusieurs reprises comme un gaucher.

Est-ce que j'ai manqué un truc ou est-ce que je n'ai rien compris??!

 Jumps

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are quite a few people who do not know which jump is which. And to be honest, except for a couple that are quite obvious to me, if I blink during the takeoff .. I don't know which jump was done either

So, I thought I would take a minute to explain what each jump is

Hi all!

Okayyy, you asked about basic skating... First, I just want to say, that I will try to explain everything the best I can over the internet. But always be very careful when trying any skating moves!! Always use caution and good judgement when skating- and never ever lean backwards...

-One basic principal in skating is that when you are gliding /skating forwards, your ballance should be on the middle/back of the blade, and when skating backwards, on the ball of your foot, front ...

Since this question doesn't fit any of the other already posted topics, I thought I'd start a new thread to handle these kinds of questions, LOL

At what point do coaches encourage competive skaters to start serious physical off-ice training? Does this begin before the elite level, and if so how soon before?

When I was 7 or 8, my aunt presented me with skates, very old ones. My parents didn't have enough time to take me to the ice-rink, so I used to put them on and 'skate' on the floor. Then my mom noticed several deep scratches and stopped my skating career;) Now I want to change it... What I need now is skates. I've looked through some on-line shops, but now I'm even more confused. Mainly they offer four types of skates:

- professional (about $150)

- not so professional, but still - professional.

| Edit | Del All Spins

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spins, incase you hadn't noticed, are very high on my favorite "to-do" list...

First:

As I posted in the "how do they do that" thread, the skate blade is not flat to the ice. It curves, and the highest point is under the ball of the foot, just below the toe-pick. As we do 3-turns ...

While watching a skating video recently I got to thinking about how skaters or choreographers choose an element to fit a particular section of music and what kind of criteria is used to make that decision. Obviously the tempo of the selection plays a part in it but what other things does the choreographer use to create the end result, other than who will perform it and what their skating level is?

Okay, here's a spot to talk more about footwork.

First, I'll answer Karen's question (or at least, what I remember of it, which was that she wanted to know what a choctaw is... Please let me know what the others were if you like, Karen )
