Didn't know where to post this...
For people with German TV there will be show tonight (on MDR) celebrating Jutta Müller`s 80th birthday at 20.15. She was the coach of Katarina Witt. I guess Kati and other pupils of Mrs Müller will be there to celebrate. And at 22:00 there will 30 more minutes about her life.

Lindemann calls off dm start because of illness

The season has barely begun, and for 6-times German figure skating master Stefan Lindemann is seems already to an end. The 28 year-old inhabitant of Erfurt had to call off his start with the German masteries in Oberstdorf because of a feverish cold.

« He has 39 degrees of fever, it does not go », said his Berlin coach Viola Striegler of the German press agency DPA. « We are very sad because he cannot start with it internationally in this season. The German masteries were for it the qualification-competition. »

With place one or two in the Allgäuer training center the world championship-fourth of 2004 would have qualified for the EM at the end of January in Helsinki. « The nomination criteria of the German skating union say quite unambiguously that the master and also the vice master take the start places with the European championship », said sports manager DEU Udo Dönsdorf before the beginning of the competitions. However, on the only ticket to the world championship in March in Los Angeles Lindemann has one more minimum chance. If no German comes in Helsinki under the best Twelve, there should be a removal running.

« Then Stefan could get one more chance », confirmed village Döns which called the illness of his former signboard "unhappy". « Of course I am sorry very much, but we can do no exception, this would not be fair. Thus sport is anyway », said village Döns. Besides, the EM third of 2005 has run for 20-month injury break after a virus illness and operation in the Adduktoren only a competition two weeks ago in Dortmund with North Rhine-Westphalia Trophy which ran into the bargain with place 16 extremely badly.

That is really sad. A few weeks ago I happened to talk to Stefan on Facebook. I told him that I'm glad that he's feeling better and then he answered that he feels really good and hopes to transfer his good training results into a competition. He sounded really optimistic... And now THAT. An illness...he really has no luck, that's so unfair. Sad

Iulya, and others who are interested in German skaters, we always have news here:

Setback for figure skater

The fact that the size of an athlete is not always just a mere indication meter is measured, figure skater Stefan Lindemann has in recent days once again proven. Because of the small 162 centimeters athlete has a special attitude to his sport, with losses and setbacks, as in the form of injuries that have frequently hit in his career have.
The last moment is just three days back. The 28-year-old had his participation in the German Championships in Oberstdorf canceled because of a feverish cold. This should have been the start of the seventh title bid, and what is more important, it should have brought him back into the national top level, after the 20-month contest break after his 16th Place in the NRW Trophy just two weeks before their way. More than one and a half years a lengthy viral illness and never-ending Adduktoren problems tormented the World championship-third of 2004.
However, giving up is not possible for the inhabitant of Erfurt. And the 6-times German champion also does not look back with rancor. „ Victory and defeat belong to the life “, said Lindemann. „ Therefore, I wouldn’t want to emphasize/highlight a day of my career. “
Although the recent repercussion also means that he has no more possibility to qualify for the European championships which are delivered in January, 2009 in Helsinki. As a new German champion Peter Liebers travels to Finland. "We are very sad, because Stefan so this season is no longer internationally can start," said trainer Viola Striegler. "It is a pity, because he was training well on it." Exceptions could also apply to the currently most successful German figure skaters are not made. A minimal chance of participation in the World Cup in March in Los Angeles but already there, it was official. Because no German should be among the best in the Twelve EM come, it would give running excretion, which Lindemann could participate.
About four years ago he managed at the World Cup in Dortmund his ascent into the world top when he won the bronze medal. That was also the first world championship medal since a German Norbert Schramm 1983. But even before that Lindemann had, the 2000 Junior World Championship in Oberstdorf, he was the first German in 2002 that landed a quadruple jump (Toeloop) successfull , he still struggled with injuries.
The path back to such successes for him has to wait yet again. "But I will fight back," he had before his surrender start in Oberstdorf said. After the recent events this statement is probably more relevant than ever. Because his willpower is crucial - also in view of a possible participation in the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver. "Stefan can achieve much," his trainer is sure. Now he must muster new evidence.
