PostSubject: Lambiel soon retire ?   14.10.08 13:22

Stéphane Lambiel give a press conference for informations on the change in his career as a skater on Thursday 16 October.

With the problems he had recently, will he also announce his retirement?

PostSubject: Re: Lambiel soon retire ?   14.10.08 19:45

huh...it's really intresting...
Btw I really don't like Lambiel, but I don't understand what he does...
Last year he said he lost his motivation and now he wants to announce sg with his carreer...What's happening with skater world? He changed coanch, left a coach with he worked for 15 years, wanted to change the world with Petrenko and Zmieskaya, made new photos, moved to america ...I saw his as a very motivated skater who wants to really "return" and win again
(other question I don't support his wants like this lol! because I support Brian.)
But it's really strange.
The world champion retired and now Lambiel want's too??

Someone on FSU suggested that Steph might switch to ice dance, lol. Razz But actually there are vids on the internet, which I've never seen before: he's doing ice dance and it doesn't even look bad:

and with Kamila Hajkova:

I would be disappointed if he really decided to retire. Mind you, I am not a fan of his skating, but...

Firstly, I was dying to see Brian and Steph competing against each other at the TEB this year. New programs, a face-up so early in the season - it could have been so stirring to watch. And now Steph's withdrawn from both of the competitions he was assigned to. Sad

Secondly, his presence in major competitions and his rivalry with Brian are what makes competitions interesting and exciting to watch for me.

Finally, it is rather strange that he went through so many changes before the season: a move to the US, a new coach and then all of a sudden he just decides to RETIRE?! Shocked Sorry, but it simply doesn't add up.

I think that it should be noted that to recover from an abductor injury can be long process. Stephane may feel that there is too much involved (since it coud be a year before the area is completely healed) to allow him to continue competing. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has decided to leave eligible skating. It's really an impossible decision to make, especially since this year leads up to the Olympic one. What rotten luck! He may feel that to omit competition for this year only isn't worth the effort (and reinjury is always possible with this sort of thing), considering how much more work would be involved to ready himself in the Olympic year. In any case, before we begin lamenting his withdrawal, let's wait and see what comes out of his press conferance.

This was just posted today at the ISF Magazine site:

It turns out that Gislaine found the article before me (third post, I think) mdr . Quite a dramatic photo added to the article, I must day.

It was translated by a woman I met at the Mariposa Gala in August, by chance.

No :brak: :10_12_91: It's a really sad situation :enpleure: I'm not a big fan of him, but I really love his skate, his style and before these all, my best friends adores him, so she's very upset and very sad now :enpleure:

Anyway, is this news really true? Is it going to be retirement or just a break?

Considering his injury this comes as no surprise to me, really. I will miss watching videos of his progress but I hope some professional show organization signs him up after his current injury heals. I'd love to see him travel the US with Stars On Ice.
