Poor Karel, I hope that his break cures all his injuries & that we have the pleasure of seeing him skate again in the - not too distant - future!

Me too, there is a link on GS to a blog on the Italian Championships - unfortunately I don't understand Italian!

Contesti's scores were huge!

Malgosia I just wrote on your wall on facebook (before I saw this thread here)

I thought you knew about Karel. He made that decision right after the season began (a message on his homepage) and we were so sad, but he told me that he will do the maximum to be back asap. I really hope he will!!! Sad

Both the top 'ladies' at RN are about 12 - too young even for international junior events!

......Looking good for Sochi though!!!

Poor Yukari, it seems an extreme punishment for one poor skate. I'm glad to see Fumie back onto the team but I think that they could have rested Asada & sent Yakari to 4CCs, (maybe Asada will WD & Yukari will get her chance).

A little update on Canadian Nationals:

Men - SP
1 Patrick Chan CO 88.89
2 Vaughn Chipeur AB/NT/NU 71.89
3 Kevin Reynolds BC/YT 70.00
4 Jeremy Ten BC/YT 69.06
5 Joey Russell 68.27
6 Shawn Sawyer QC 66.88
(...)

Patrick Chan got a massive score Shocked - flawless performance with 3 Axel, 3Lutz, and 3Flip/3Toe combination. Can't imagine anyone beating him here. Shawn Sawyer who won the freeskate at Skate Canada this season is only 6th - the point difference between 2nd and 6th can be considered as minor so anything can happen.

SP FP Points
1 Joannie Rochette QC 53.58 131.77 185.35
2 Cynthia Phaneuf QC 55.16 96.26 151.42

4 Diane Szmiett WO 51.99 83.85 135.84
5 Kathryn Kang BC/YT 46.10 86.38 132.48
6 Mira Leung BC/YT 48.76 81.67 130.43
(...)

Joannie captured her 5th fifth Canadian Nationals title.

3 Mylène Brodeur / John Mattatall NS 55.63 104.22 159.85
(...)

Ice dance Final results
CD OD FD Points

2 Vanessa Crone / Paul Poirier CO 35.62 55.56 84.40 175.58
3 Kaitlyn Weaver / Andrew Poje NO 31.89 52.92 85.42 170.23
4 Andrea Chong / Guillaume Gfeller QC 31.92 50.93 84.65 167.50

Unsuprisingly Patrick Chan won the Canadian Chasmpiuonships by the proverbial country mile, Vaughan Chipeur was second & Jeremy Ten third - they are all named for Worlds.

Looking at Patrick Chan's scores (totalling 254+) it seems that he has inherited Jeffrey Buttle's PCS's & GOE's - even allowing for NIF (Nationals inflation factor) - his freeskate had six triples.

PostSubject: Re: National events 2008/2009   19.01.09 20:29

i am in love completely with the first 2 canadian dance pairs. tessa and scott have a very beautifel free dance. it needs more practice to get it perfect but it has a great potential. their lifts are just affraid in a good way. and vanessa and paul are so lovely i just can't help but love them.
i can't wait to see the dance at worlds this year. to me the dance is the most balanced competition with lots of pairs being so good and so different

but as in love as i am with the canadian ice dance team is as much as i can't stand patrick chan. he seems a nice guy and all but his skating bugs the hell out of me.

I'm very proud of Tessa and Scott. They always improve themselves since they've started to skate. One year to another year you can see how much they improve. Their new programmes are very excellent. Especially the lift which is in the free dance, is very difficult, it is very difficult to get balance. When I first saw that lift, I was very troubled about that Tessa will fall down... Fortunately it didn't happen. Wink cheers

If they practice it hardly, and to be confident about themselves ( sure I think they do these ) they can win... Smile So go Tessa and Scott to the gold !! Go guys goo :incass: :incass:

GO Johnny! :cheergo1:
