I'm watching the men's final now. Brandon Mroz did a fabulously clean program. Much better than what he did at Bompard, and this is his first time at the senior national level!

Ryan Bradley is skating now.

(a few minutes later...)

He did ok, landed the quad but popped a jump later. .30 less than Mroz.

And Evan Lysacek didn't skate well. Fall on quad and looked very stiff throughout. Let's see...he's currently in 2nd place, and Jeremy Abbot has yet to skate.

(minutes later)

soooo, we are moments away from finding out if the champion will be Abbot or Mroz...

Abbott wins! (though the skate wasn't as good as GPF)

We'll find out later today who the World team will. It's definitely the champion, plus whoever else the USFSA decides to send. The podium doesn't automatically go.

17 Jason Wong, SC of Boston 140.73 11 17

OMG Congrats Jeremy!!!!!!! It wasn't his best skate, but damn he fought the whole way through. Brandon Mroz was fantastic, so was Curran Oi. Ryan was adorable as usual...poor Johnny. He's still not fully recovered from that stomach virus. I cried after he skated. As for Evan...it just wasn't enough. If he's on the World team, then he seriously needs to up his game. Poor Parker. At least his SP was awesome.

Poor Johnny... Who USFS will pick for Worlds: Ryan B. or Johnny Weir? Or they are out? I guess Jeremy A. and Evan Lysacek are ok for LA , but Brandon Mroz still in juniors?

Iza, I don't even think that Ryan is a possibility for the World team. Johnny is definitely a possibility. Brandon is a senior and competed on the Grand Prix circuit this past season at TEB (5th) and Skate Canada (7th).

If it were up to me, I'd choose Jeremy, Johnny, and Brandon.

Thanks, Kiki! bisousfleurs But Evan fisinhed in 3rd place and Johnny in 5th, so I doubt it USFS will pick Johnny and not Evan. It is not fair. What happened with Johnny? Is he injured or ill or even without motivation? I truly hope that this result doesn't affect too much the emotion of Johnny and he will make a big statement at 4CC.

Iza, Johnny suffered two stomach viruses back to back in December and still hasn't recovered. He lost a significant amount of weight and is still relatively weak. That's why he didn't do well. However, Johnny made it to the GPF. Evan didn't. Johnny's done well this season so far. Evan has not.

USFS has a difficult choice to do and any decision they will be problaby should be a lot of complains. Perhaps it is good to send for 4CC Brandon Mroz just to test him . If it were all up to me I'd hold off deciding who all gets to go to Worlds until after 4CC's. I would then send Brandon, Ryan & Adam Rippon to 4 CC's. If Brandon skates this well & medals at 4CC then I'd send him to Worlds along with Jeremy & Evan. If he doesn't medal then I'd put Johnny on the World team as his replacement & Brandon as alternate in case Johnny still isn't strong enough by March. But as said before, it will be a hard choice from USFS.

But Iza, why send Evan? He hasn't done well this season and last season wasn't great either. He's been getting under-rotation calls on several jumps, especially his 3A. He didn't do well at Nationals. He was fourth in the LP with Ryan Bradley, Jeremy, and Brandon beating him. I agree about sending Brandon, Adam, and Ryan to 4CC. If Johnny isn't strong enough by March, then send Evan with Jeremy and Brandon.

In other news, Alissa Cziny, Rachael Flatt, Keauna McLaughlin/Rockne Brubaker, Denney/Barrett, Davis/White, Belbin/Agosto, and Samuelson/Bates are going to Worlds.

I forgot to congrats to Jeremy for his beautiful victory! Since last season I was cheering for him, who had a lot of cool moviments and rhythim.

USFS will announce the 3 men who should go to Worlds and 4CC?

Jeremy's SP was brilliant...his LP, not so much (he's had better LPs this season) but he fought for every jump. It's the most I've seen him emote while skating in the LP.

Supposedly, the USFSA is making the decision some time tonight.

Kiki, I've just read at http://www.usfsa.org/Story.asp?id=42483 that they picked for Worlds the 3 national winners and Johnny, Brandon and S. Carriere as substitues.

Apart possibly from ice dance (assuming Ben's back is better), I don't see USA having 3 spots in any event at Olympics - I hope to be proved wrong at LA Worlds!

Oh no, please don't wish for Brandon to be terrible! He was absolutely brilliant yesterday, and I wish him all the best at Worlds, along with Jeremy. Smile

As for the USFSA's decision, they're totally in love with Evan and have been for years. They favor Evan, while the international judges favor Johnny. I would have sent Johnny (two months is more than enough time to get his strength back), but what do I know? Rolling Eyes

Well, Lysacek did not have a chance to compete at Worlds last year due to injury. And he lives and trains in Los Angeles Wink . Interesting that Weir has been chosen the first alternate, above Ryan Bradley, who finished higher. You never know what will happen in the near future...Emily Hughes was the first alternate for the 2006 Olympics, and she ended up competing.

Any more National championships this season?
