Oliwka, oh that yes, frankly I prefer hundred times the comments of Philippe Pélissier and the young woman (remembers me more of the name) that the talkative trio of France 2 in more they don't broadcast everything!! lol
Oliwka , oh que oui , franchement je préfère cent fois les commentaires de Philippe Pélissier et la jeune femme (me souvient plus de son nom) que le trio bavard de France 2 en plus ils ne diffusent pas tout !! lol

Really good interview - Russian interviews are the best, aren't they? Everyone seems more honest and thoughtful.

Music for the Olympic season already picked, huh? Please don't let it be Bolero... pale You know, considering that the French ladies and pairs are showing some promise, I think France may have a shot in the team event.

I do like his attitude about learning from others.

Here's a report about Euros and what happened from Veronique Guyon's perspective.

Thanks! First of all Veronique knew that Brian has had these issues, this was nothing new. Still, she seems to be a bit surprised and doesn't say they would have worked with the issue. Secondly what she told "There wasn't much to say. I tried to focus on technical aspects." Of course there was a lot to say! To make Brian believe in himself. IMO, Veronique sounds as lost as Brian.

That's exactly what came into my mind when I read the article. I think she needs to work on that as a coach. She has to "raise" him more, give him confidence. She should be more like Brian Orser or Morozov. She's very good at technical part but on mental part...

My take on it is that she is focused on the technical side of coaching Brian. Assuming that's the case, she can help him to a limited degree with mental prep and encourage him to seek help for other issues, but cannot provide the same support and tools that a sports psychologist might. As for her choice to focus on the technical stuff in Sheffield, I read it as an attempt to get Brian to focus on something concrete and thus limit the damage from the mental stuff he was dealing with.

Brian has said in the past that he has to be confident in his tech in order to feel confident on the ice. It is possible that Veronique saw that he was in good shape physically and that he was, at least superficially, mentally ready for Euros, and didn't expect any issues to pop up so late in the game.

It is very hard to say what happened exactly; you really never know which Brian will show up in competition these days. I'm not sure even Brian can predict it anymore.

BTW, even Orser and Morozov are not miracle workers - re Orser, see Javi's performance at Euros, and his failure to do much with Adam Rippon. For Morozov, there's Florent's poor showing on the GP and Leonova's struggles in Sheffield. Unless you have a skater who is a born competitor, like Plush or Lysacek, I think there's only so much a coach can do.
