Amodio spoke with the same tone: “I have to isolate myself. I have skated good programs but these are only Masters. I won’t get too excited”


An accident can happen so quickly

On the small Orléans rink they often avoided collisions not to mention serious accidents. At training then at warm-up, Brian Joubert and Yannick Ponsero almost collided 3 times. Their staff got some real frights.


Next year’s appointment

In 2010 Masters will take place for the third time in Orléans. The central region should also host French Championships in Tours. Next december, French Championships should take place in Marseille but the rink is still under construction, it is not certain building works will be finished by that time. In this case, Tours should be a good substitute.

Is it sur that the French Championships are in Tours?? (or Marseille?)

Lena, the building or finishing of the new ice rink of Marseille took delay and do not know if it will be ready at the time of CF..
According to a friend, the skaters gave several cities( plouf plouf )), hhahaha it is mad this organisation therefore let us wait for the confirmation of the place! The fédé will not have to be to surprise not enough world with all this mess!

Gailhaguet: “Golden Brian in Vancouver”

Immediately after the end of the competition Didier Gailhaguet invited Brian to provide him with a review. Well known technician (he also coached Surya Bonaly), the president of the Ice Sports’ Federation was enthusiastic.
“I’ve seen extremely good things coming from Brian Joubert even though he was defeated today. The free program, which always was his weak point, will now become his trump card. It should enable him to become the next olympic champion. I don’t see how it could be otherwise. Brian must win gold in Vancouver”.
The omnipotent and influent Gailhaguet, however, didn’t find the European champion’s choice of music (“Ancient Lands” by Ronan Hardiman) to his taste at first.
Though defeated, Joubert convinced his ex adviser on saturday in Orléans.
“I had to put on a lot of pressure in order to obtain certain indispensables over certain choices” confides Gailhaguet “Everything went back to order even if some minor details can be straightened out. It is just a little physical condition problem which he will solve very quickly and easily. We can only be optimistic”.
Even with a few kilos too many, Brian Joubert lightheartedly went back to work in Poitiers.
“I am happy because Didier (Gailhaguet) is very important to me. His opinion is always extremely precious to me.”
The result at Masters doesn’t displease Gailhaguet or the french federation who know that Joubert, already set on a very good path, will be piqued by young and impetuous Amodio’s loud irruption.
A young talent that comes from nowhere like…..a certain Joubert in 2002.

Brian Joubert, TV star in Japan

A 49 minute documentary on the skater is being shot in Poitiers by a TV crew from Tokyo. All his moves are analyzed.

“In Japan people are fascinated by figure skating because we have two champions in this discipline” explains Daiki Tanikawa, director and producer of sports documentaries for the NHK, a japanese public TV channel. “This way they know Joubert well, famous for his quad jump. Moreover, women find him very cute. He’s very successful here!”
This was an incentive for Daiki Tanikawa to direct a 49 minute documentary on the athlete from Poitiers.
“I met him last April during a competition in Tokyo and personally gave him a letter illustrating my project. He gave me the OK one month later. I was really pleased”.
The reportage is part of a series called “the human miracle”.
“We try to analyse the human body’s miracles, to show where man can go……we use a lot of slow motion”.
Since Sunday and until Saturday, 6 japanese and 10 french occupy the Poitiers rink, closed to the public, to shoot Brian Joubert’s quad jump. For that purpose they have installed very sophisticated material and a camera able to capture 1000 images/frames per second (for cinema cameras “only” capture 24 frames per second). The result is extremely slow motion.
“There are only about 10 cameras like this worldwide” says a japanese camera man.

Deeper into his intimacy

The NHK also asked the help of the Laboratory of Mechanics of Solids at the university of Poitiers.
“They want us to provide scientific data on Brian’s quad jump” confides Tony Monnet, teacher and researcher.
“We glue 60 sensors on his body (approximately 3 for each bone segment) that reflect the light emitted by 20 cameras set up around the ice rink. This way we will see his movements 3 dimensionally, we can measure his speed precisely, his impulse, his rotation….”
Daiki Tanikawa finally plans on covering Brian Joubert’s life.
“We already recorded an interview at his home, but we would like to show more of him when in his intimacy”
