| Thanks Alissa for the news about Brian I hope that it's nothing serious and Brian won't withdraw from the Cup of China. I cross my fingers for his health and I'm waiting for some good news! All the best Brian, I love you! |

| A long flight would do someone with a back injury absolutely no good. I know Brian really wants to win CoC, but if it's serious enough to affect his skating, he's better off WDing and letting his back heal. |

I agree, it is very dissappointing for him but he will want to be in good shape for Europeans & Worlds - both of which are much more important than a GP event. His health is even more important than them.... Get well fully Brian! _________________ ~Sheena~

| Oh no! I was already counting the days for the competition! He has a really bad luck with the CoC! I wonder if he will ever win it.... I don't think there is no point to go to compete with an injury and possibly have a really bad skate which will make him loose his confidence and reputation among the judges. I am sad for him. |

| I read news, Brian has backaches since instant.. He has every reason to protect himself, it isn't necessary to go to China to declare false at the last minute.. He will see Elites well for TEB and for rest of season (for selection in Euro and perhaps the Worlds in Nice what is important for him and I think that he will make his decision to continue or not his career afterwards but I can make a mistake!!). .

| I can't stand all this uncertainty, this expectation on the decision of Brian, it's the most difficult for me! I can't stop to think about Brian and his injury and I can focus on nothing Take care Brian! |

| Brian needs to focus on getting himself as healthy as is possible. I would think it would be in his best interest to forego Cup of China and, instead, do whatever is necessary to heal his back. As Sheena stated, above, it is far more important for him to be ready, healthy and fit for Europeans and World's, as well as TEB, since those are the really important competitions of this season.

| These back problems seem to come and go with Brian. If Brain is not 100% or doesn't feel ready, he should not go to China. There is no use going if he doesn't feel completely ready because he will skate badly and the judges will rip him apart. Then D.G.will tear Brian down like he always does. Plus Brian might get sick after the long flight to and from China, like he did last year.

Brian began to complain of the problems with his back before the Nebelhorn Trophy 2011. I agree with all your opinions that Brian's health is the most important now and first of all he should treat this back injury. He doesn't have to compete in the Grand Prix competition, it's not his main goal of this season. The biggest competition for him will only begin in next year. |

| Here's my problem. If he's going to train anyway and just not go to China, he might as well go. If he's really going to rest and work on his back without training then fine, stay home. But sometimes athletes skip competitions based on an injury and then they stress themselves physically almost as much as if they had competed in the first place. If he's not going to go, then he needs to actually rest. The most he should do is integrate more flexibility exercises into his regime. Pilates, yoga, etc. If he's going to stay home and run through his program over and over again, then it's pointless to skip it. Especially since he wanted to win CoC so much and he said he's not doing the GP anymore.
And as a side note, I used to be super into astrology. And earth signs manifest their issues physically. So if they don't want to do something, or they're worried they can make themselves sick to avoid whatever it is. If I were on his team I'd be looking for actual damage to his back. And if there isn't any, I'd hypnotize him and put him on the plane. |

I disagree. There's quite a difference between training (perhaps at a lower level of intensity) at your home rink, with access to your usual medical team, and going on a long-distance flight to compete in a foreign country. In the 2008-9 season, Brian flew out to the GPF with a back injury; by the time he got to S. Korea, he wasn't doing great, and he had someone work on his back while there - which did more harm than good. So he ended up WDing after the SP and missing French Nats. If he's not physically up to competing, it's better for him to take the time and heal. At his age and with his level of experience, I imagine Brian knows which injuries he can push through (e.g. the knee injury last season) and which require a break from competition. |

| While it is disappointing for Brian to loose the opportunity to compete in CoC, I am relieved that he is not doing that long plane flight with what must be a nasty back injury... _________________ ~Sheena~

I pity Brian so much! I would like he was healthy and could compete but the reality is other unfortunately I understand his decision, it's not possible to skate if he feels the pain. I reflect on the Trophee Eric Bompard, if is some chance that Brian will start there??? |

So then he's had a back injury for years. I hadn't realized this had been going on for that long. - Snow_Queen wrote:

It's a pity, but I'm sure, he knows it better. If you have something to say him in order to support, you can send it to japanese forum.
That's just confusing. The Japanese fans are also the ones who seemed to know his schedule inside and out. Are they working for him or something? Like he has a Japanese assistant? |
