But there isn't anything official yet, that he would have withdrawn. His name is still on the list of the entries.

I really don't think the injury is very serious, otherwise he would have announced his withdrawn right away and not spent a weekend considering it. So I am quite sure that it won't prevent him to skate at TEB.

Sometimes I wonder if the weird procedure that some doctor did on his back in the 2008 GP's which Yulie mentioned, harmed his back permanently....

PostSubject: Re: The Cup of China 4/6 November/Coupe de Chine   31.10.11 23:01

WTF? lol How confusing is this information? Maybe there are two Brians.

Quote :
Joubert: Cup of China first and above all! As you may know, I
have won every Grand Prix series event throughout my career, but one:
Cup of China. So this upcoming week will be very important for me, and
it will be one of my major objectives this season.
The competition
promises to be of quite high caliber, just like the Trophée Eric Bompard
in Paris [the other Grand Prix where Joubert is scheduled to skate].
Europeans and worlds will be quite important for me also, of course!

I'm beginning to think there are gremlins in his camp always up to mischief. Unless he hurt his back over the weekend, this upcoming week has to mean he did this interview last week, Monday to Sunday(yesterday), at the earliest. Anytime before that and "this upcoming week" wouldn't make any sense.

This is why I keep making cranky posts. I'm not buying a lot of the stuff I read. It didn't make sense to me that Brian would just dump CoC over an iffy injury since he already stated that he doesn't not intend to do the Grand Prix in the future. If he doesn't go then I'll assume it's a big injury and that he won't be doing TEB either and might be out for the rest of the season.

A long-distance plane ride would be the worst thing Brian could do for his back. Sitting in a plane seat, with limited access to areas where he could stretch and walk to relieve cramped muscles would have disasterous effects on his back muscles, vertebrae and disks. Sure, he could probably find a back specialist, there, but that person wouldn't know Brian's back injury as well as his own doctors back in France. I would rather see him stay home and do his regular training routines, although somewhat altered to accomodate his back problems. Doing CoC, this year, isn't in his best interest,health-wise.

The words " this upcoming week" might not mean the interview was given LAST week, it may be the trick of the interviewer!
I believe the interview was given long ago,in the end of september for example during the preTEB press conference.

Thank you for the news. So sad.
Well...I booked tickets, accomodation and everything and was looking forward to seeing him at Shanghai...but that's life.
Hope he will get better soon!

Here's a brief update from L'Equipe with more details, though not much more: Brian hurt his back doing a spin on Thursday. This explains the discrepancy between the article and the news we were getting - it really was a very recent injury. Obviously disappointing for fans and even more so for fans, but his health comes first.

I wonder if he'll try to do another GP season, just for another shot at CoC? Or maybe it'll be like Russian Nats for Yags - the one that got away...

Thanks Yulie for the exact news about Brian's injury!
I think Brian really had a big ill-luck during doing this spin, it's probably the first time in his career when he hurt his back in this way.
Pity we won't see him during the Cup of China all the more since he wanted so much to win this competition but the life can be cruel sometimes.
For me worst is that Brian got this injury for some days before his flight to Shanghai, it was a very unexpected injury and it pains most of all Sad
Brian must be very disillusioned and disappointed now. I understand him very well and I really have compassion him!
What, I wish him much health Very Happy
Maybe we will see him on the Trophee Eric Bompard (I would like so much he has beaten Chan!).

Sad news! Sad I wonder if he injured doing the new spin, the upright spin in which he reaches his leg.

I sort of hope he will do the CoC in 2012 or 2013, because he would really deserve to win it or at least try to win it.
I don't think Yagudin really cared about Russian Nats, he got his Olympic Medal, but Brian lost his chances to get a medal at Olympics and now he probably lost his main goal which he still wanted to achieve in his career.

He should just focus on all he's achieved in ISU Championships! The GP sweep has already been accomplished by Shen and Zhao, but 16 ISU championship medals are more than any skater has won since Rodnina (even longer than that in singles) and last season he tied the Euros medal record for singles. I'm not sure he's fully aware of how amazing that is. Someone should just tell him that it's more than Plush has. Laughing

I don't agree with your opinion.
I think Brian still can win Cup of China and get medal at the Olympic Games 2014.
He didn't lose his chances, he is a great sportsman and I believe he still can do it.
I can't cross out him, he showed so much excellent figure skating that he deserves at the beautiful end of his career and it can happen at the Olympics Drapeau

I am not too much surprised of this very much wise decision!

It is not necessary to hurt itself more and to compromise its season! I understand the disappointment of fans who make displacement in China!
I hope that Brian will go well for TEB!
Je ne suis pas trop étonnée de cette décision fort sage !

Ce n'est pas la peine de se blesser davantage et de compromettre sa saison!Je comprends la déception de fans qui font le déplacement en Chine!
J'espère que Brian ira bien pour le TEB !

I move subject/Je déplace le sujet .

I'm also not surprised, it's sensible decision of Brian!
I would like to watch Brian on the Cup of China but if he can't skate and feels badly, it's without sense to risk, his health is the most important in this moment!
I also hope that Brian can skate very good programs in Paris, he's amazing figure skater and he can afford it!
Allez Brian!!! cheergo1

Brian Joubert - withdrawal from Cup of China 2011 - 19/20 Poitou-Charentes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPwlDEpjflA

I would like to see this crash of Brian during doing a spin.
I'm very curious how did it look.

Interview with Brian 02.11.2011:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9cd55xkKkc
Brian said:
"It will take a long time before I feel really well. What is worrying, this is I can't put on my socks! Right, this is a stupid thing and I can't skate for the moment, I can't do any elements. It's likely to delay the resumption of the training in good conditions, and this is what is fretting me the most. Now, I think it couldn't throw away the season. I had the choice between participate at the Cup of China and do a bad competition, or stay in France, treat me and to prepare me for the Bompard Trophy, this is also very important! So, I prefered the 2nd choice. And this season is very important, there are the World Championships in France..., so I must to be ready!!"

Thanks for the video FandeBrian! Oh, the injury sounds so painful! pale I am worried for him, it can take a while until he can practise again. Maybe TEB will be too soon?

And bienvenue Vida!

Thanks Fandebrian for the YouTube links and the translation!

Wow! I really don't like how Brian describes his back injury...this sounds like it could be fairly serious. No I wish we had a better description of exactly what the injury is; a video showing how the injury occured would be best and would give us all a better understanding of what Brian is facing.
