I'm sorry to hear that Brian has done so poorly. I'm afraid to see the video of the performance or the interview.

It sounds to me like Brian is having panic attacks.
It is possible to become so overwhelmed with anxiety that you cannot feel anything. Both the body and the mind becomes numb. It becomes impossible to think or move.

Lets hope he can battle for personal success in the free skate.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Championships are in San Jose, CA. My hometown! I'm trying to see if I can scrape up some money to see the ladies LP.

I saw sport at 20.00 on France 3 and reactions of Brian's mom who was on tribune and watched Brian's short program. She said something sad in French (I didn't understand what) and put her hand on the forehead and face.

Brian's comments in Kiss&Cry:

maybe it's a bit masochistic to watch this...

Oliwka, I'm glad you are back again! Smile

So I think all of us will support Brian tomorrow, even from far away...I really hope he will get his confidence back, after reading his comments I'm worried about him. I'll try to believe in Brian, but it's difficult at the moment...He's still a strong skater - but with weak nerves...

But with all the medals he won in the last ten years there's no reason for him to prove anything to anybody. That's an important thought for me; I'm going into the night with it.

Good night, girls! See you tomorrow! hug

I don't understand what he means with this sentence?

I love his soft hand movements!

I guess he's trying to say that in the past he wouldn't follow the rules so much in terms of how to prepare etc, he wasn't as serious as he is now, he was behaving like an asshole (je faisais le con), but that way of behaving paid more in terms of results.
The way I understand it is before he was more careless but was getting better results.

PostSubject: Re: European Championships 2012 Men SP & LP   27.01.12 23:02

I left my comments about yesterday for today, hoping I would write something reasonable...

In first place, yes, I am sad about what happened to Brian. Yes, I feel so sorry for him and I wish I could just hug him and tell him to forget about the judges and placement and just skate for joy. I totally agree with you, Anja - he has NOTHING MORE TO PROVE after having achieving so much in this sport. And I would just punch the French media into their noses and make them remember which other man in their skating history was SO successful over a decade and brought home so many medals? I don't think anyone tops Brian in that now ....

He failed, because of being not sure of himself. So what? It happened so many times, and yet he somehow always managed to do himself justice in the LP. I know, not an excuse, but with the time I learned to accept things as they are. He could have blamed it on whatever, but he didn't. He always admits his faults, not even afraid to say he's actually scared. We are all human beings, and we all have certain limits as to how strong we can be and handle things easily. Brian is the one who always has the tougher road ahead. Yet he never surrenders and fights. He doesn't always succeed, but he always fights. And that's why tomorrow, when I'll be there sitting... no.... ON MY FEET supporting him, no matter how he finishes, I WANT to show him I do respect him and will always do so for all the fight and courage he's shown in the decade he's graced the ice. For not always is the one who stands on the top of the podium the one who is the actual winner - the winner of fighting his own fear and weakness....

Love you, Brian, always will Smile I love you Drapeau

no problem here you go Smile

« What's happening is that there still are a few little things to tune up. I don't reproach myself anything with regards to the preparation because we worked really well, I made progress in many areas, physically everything is well, technically also, I think I couldn't stand the pressure mentally, and after some reflection, after talking with my coach, with Didier Gailhaguet and with my close ones, we realised I haven't done enough competitions. So I arrived here feeling good but it wasn't sufficient, I should have done more competitions in this season to properly get into these Euros. Trainings were fabulous here, but this morning was catastrophic. I think the problem is purely mental because my technique is good, I know how to jump, but I couldn't cope mentally so I felt really tense and unwell, and I lost all my sensations on the ice.
I take it with a smile because that's the only thing I can do, but.....in Bern it was different because I hadn't completed a faultless short program before competing in Bern, whilst here I had completed faultless shorts at trainings. The problem is that doing well at trainings is good, but competing is a different ball game. I look forward to finishing this competition, I won't shine, which is a pity, but now I am already focused on Worlds which take place in 2 months, I'll see how I can make up for this at Worlds, even though I know it will be very difficult, but it can be done. »
