@Facepalm, I saw that too, and that's very nice and will hopefully help him tomorrow.

However... the SP is just not working in competition and if he's serious about continuing past this season, he has to get something that can score better. Look at the PCS - worse than Contesti! - that is not good.

Brian did 4T+2T and... 4S!!!!!!!! WOW
Oooh, just saw that. Interesting indeed - he hasn't done 4S in competition (even sloppily) since 2006! And I think that makes him only the second skater to attempt two quads in an SP. Wow. That's pretty neat.

I see Florent also had an iffy 4S, but got a better element score on his combo because he had a triple on the end and +GOE.

It's wonderful that Brian did two quads! He probably will try it in the Worlds too.
On the otherhand I am surprised of his low marks, the transitions got only 6.08! Abbott fell twice but he still only one point behind!!! Honestly the gap should be A LOT bigger if the other person does two quads and the other fells twice?!?

Not when one person is skating a very CoP-friendly program and the other one is skating what is basically an EX... Brian's chosen to go with programs he enjoys skating, but there's a price for that. Also, Abbott got really good GOEs on his non-jump elements, while Brian more or less broke even on those; and although he didn't fall, Brian did make mistakes on two of his three jumping passes. If he'd gone clean, his marks would have been considerably higher - and probably his PCS would have inched up a bit, too.

I have more problems with Florent getting the marks he did.

Anyway - well done to Brian for putting the 4S in the SP. I honestly did not expect him to try it.

Yes, Brian's sp is too much like an ex and it's terrible if it causes him loosing a possible medal in worlds. He is cabable of skating much better programs. But at least the interpretation score should have been huge if he skated the program with energy and a big grin, lol. I don't know if this judging panel is totally pro...

I'm so surprised to see Brian doing 4S. Does this mean he'll also try two quads in SP at worlds?
Can't understand about the PCS. Sad
Hope Brian will keep in good shape and good luck tomorrow. lol!

Waaahooo Brian was amazing today! Eventhough he overturned one of his jumps. I really like his short program and people were clapping along with his music! He got a lot of applause afterwards! After THE short program me and roos went to the otter side of the rink to see Brian upclose, but we weren't allowed to get closer at one point. I really wanted to get à picture with Brian and luckely the women who first said we weren't allowed closer now suddenly said that we could pass and take à picture with Brian. We were so happy, the last time that i took a picture with Brian at euros in 2010 the picture was blurry. Brian was on his way to leave the rink but i was standing in front of him. He smiled and said "hi" i said: hi Brian can i please take a picture with you and he said " yeah sure" he smiled and stood next to me with his arm around my waiste. I told him that i tought he skated very well. He thanked me and i wished him all the best for tomorrow. He said thanks again and said bye bye Smile i took some pictures. I Will upload them this sunday Smile

Honestly, I've been trying for two years and I wouldn't know a CoP-friendly program if it bit me on the ass. Some programs look like they have less content to me and then get higher scores and vice versa. *shrug*

Yay! I love it when people get to have nice meetings like that. sunny Can't wait to see your photos, Manon.

Thanks Baboo_Vale. Now that I've seen the program I think he did a great job.

Does anyone pay for that ISU stream? If so do you know if this was on it?

Thanks! I think he skated very concentrated, didn't see any big grins or anything like that. I think it was great that he was able to be so focused although he did two quads and was probably very excited! It was a good skate and should have been gotten better PCS, imo!

I heard that Florent withdrew. I hope it's nothing serious.

Oh, I can tell what's CoP-friendly and what isn't. That doesn't mean I necessarily like the coP-friendly stuff, but that's how the game is played if you want to score well. It is possible to do appealing code-whoring, though - Jeremy being a good example, and some of Dai's programs, too. Ingo Steuer is the best at putting together cool CoP programs, his work with Aliona and Robin is just fantastic.

The Challenge Cup is ISU sanctioned but it is not an ISU competition, so I doubt it's included in the stream.

I've no problem with Brian's PCS - he's had better programs and I think his focus was mainly on the tech side of things. 2 quads & good levels = very encouraging, even with the mistakes. I d have a problem with Contesti's PCS, which certainly didn't match what he did on the ice. It should have been lower than Brian's.

Florent has a groin injury. Hopefully he'll recover quickly.

Well done to Brian, good news about the two quads (not totally clean, but rotated & no falls) in the sp!!

Good for Manon who was able to get her photo & congratulate him - from all of us, I'm sure!

allez again today....

I hope Flo's injury is not serious.

Facepalm, Gislaine has linked earlier in the thread to the event youtube channel, I doubt there will be videos anywhere else.

Matrix practice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbNPN811t9o

I don't understand why they didn't close the rink during the official practices. It must be distracting that bunch of random people are skating around you on the speed skating rink when you try to concentrate.
