Men results:

Plushenko overscored (but so was Chan) but surprisingly (or not?) solid. I have to say that over the last 5 years I have developed a great appreciation for the man, if not his skating.
Florent tripled the quad and played to the audience, as usual, but no meltdown. I have to say, even if he landed a quad he probably would have been 5th still, so no biggie. His PCS are dropping, though. Methinks DG miscalculated.
Abbott had a disaster, but then it is Abbott, and I didn't expect differently. If he does well at Nationals he usually breaks down at worlds.

Pairs results:

Good programs fromall the usual suspect, but disaster for J/C.

After 2 disciplines:
1 RUS 19pts
1 CAN 17pts
3 CHN 15pts
4 JPN  13pts
5 GER 10pts
6 FRA 10pts
7 USA 10pts
8 ITA   8pts
9 UKR  5pts
10 GBR3pts

GER, FRA and USA are tied for 10pts but the Sochi web site gives GER 5th place. I am not sure how the tiebreakeers go. Both France and USA should move ahead of Germany in the next two disciplines and China and Japan should lose some ground, but the Italians, two points behind, could play spoiler, as well. Brian was very supportive of J/C in the K&C but as the marks came up you could see on his face that he realized his chances of skating the free were not good.

Israeli TV coverage is surprisingly good. We get all the skating live (but I miss the first half hour commuting from work) and although the commentating team is, as expected, quite misinformed, at least they don't chatter all over the programs.

I don't think France will qualify for the free. Italy has Kostner who will beat Meite with many placements and Nath and Fab will only beat Anna and Luca with maybe one or two placements. So, I think Brian won't need to skate the free, then.  No

Thank you, Gis!!
Glad I found the BBC livestream eventually, so I missed just the first skater in men's SP Smile
What a competition that was though! Very high standard and some really brilliant performances, including Yuzuru, Plushi (not being a fan, yet hat off to his performance,in his age still skate at such standard!), Peter Liebers, the German and Canadian pairs couple, the Chinese and especially Tatiana & Maxim, that was simplu stunning Very Happy
In general, I think most of the skaters really lived their performances, as I saw much more facial and body expression during their skates than usual at some skaters, was really a wonderful afternoon!  clap
Also, loved seeing the skaters cheering their teammates in their boxes, and really a lovely bonus to see some 'old' familiar faces too - Marina Anissina right next to Brian as a support, agh, a sight for sore eyes  faint18x19wy5

I have doubts too about FRA making it into the free programmes Sad though never say never and even if not, at least Brian could get the feel for the competition already Wink

^Yes, maybe this experience will make him feel more gutsy and anxious to finally get to compete. It must feel a bit frustrating just to sit there and watch others skate.
I can't believe this will be his last competition, though.

Apparently if teams tie, they all advance to the next stage...so here's hoping France will at least tie for 5th.

Where did you heard this? I have read that there are bunch of rules how the placements will be decided if there is a tie.

Ah sorry, I read it from a well-respected sportswriter, but I think she was mistaken. The tie-breaking procedure is on page 10 here, but if the list of tie breakers don't do the trick, then they will still be tied. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

...but it's sad for me to watch the team event in very bad quality. I think my computer is too slow for these live streams...  No  But I will watch tomorrow in spite of this, and let's hope for the best!  Drapeau

FFF = Figure skating Fan Frustration. As a German fan, I'm well acquainted with this feeling...But after Sotchi it will be over for me.

France loses the final by one point. B/S placed ahead of P/B (ridiculous), but even if P/B placed third France would have been tied with Italy, so possibly not making it. J/C disaster did the French in and Brian won't be skating his free program twice.

It's a pity for France, but I'm not really disappointed. No nervousness tomorrow...If I can watch the FP's, I will be as relaxed as today, when I watched an old video tape with the gala from Euros 2007, just drinking tea and enjoying...

Finally found a stream to watch some this event! Having no cable during the Olympics sucks.
