I can't believe Candeloro said something like that, he should have just shut up.

I still can't put the right words on the paper as my thoughts are mixed up too much with emotions, but I have to say that nothing can describe totally what a huge respect and admiration I have for this guy.... Considering all the conditions in the past few years, and at 29 years of age, he skated brilliantly at these Olympics and honestly, after having finally watched the competition replay today, he had one of the best performances there last night even with such ridiculously low marks.... Especially that last group looked more like a practice group  Shocked I know skating is a tough sport and at Olympics especially, but you wouldn't expect so many skaters literally falling apart, so many TOP skaters..... (taking nothing away from their individual skating qualities, because the likes of Hanyu, Ten, Javier and even Patrick certainly do have them). I just thought he really was hard done by. I know it wasn't his technically most challenging program ever but still, was in some ways marvelous and I really thought he'd score better, but oh well...  He was happy and he damn should be, and proud of himself!
I'm still not able to say more at this moment just thought I'd share with you what Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir on NBCSN said after Brian finished his LP last night, especially considering the endless debates about him being an 'old judging system' skater and not fit for the new one, as I think it perfectly sums it all up ... Smile

Tara: 'I don't care what system he's skating in, I LOVE his skating.'
Johnny: 'So masculine, strong, powerful... And it was such a statement for him to be here... He's been under question all year... But this was a special performance. Not because it was the greatest he's ever done, simply because he was here.... He was excellent today, he fought through his performance.'

“I really hope when I finish my competitive career that my fans will continue to follow figure skating. And they will find, maybe, another favorite skater. He will be different from me, but I hope they will love him. And they will love figure skating!”

i read the interview earlier when he said it, but... He really think we will find another skater? i don't want, and i'm sure that i never will..

One thought entertains the cynic in me - that Patrick Chan ended up being slain by his own sword....

That article was the most wonderful piece about him I've read in a long time.... Thank you for sharing Smile
And what wonderful words from him, that's what he's always been about, to drawing more people to figure skating, to make them see how challenging, exciting and yet beautiful this sport is. And he made it ;)I don't think it's impossible to find new favourites after him, it's just that no one will ever be the same (which is good in skating terms), no one (at least for me) will ever touch me the way Brian did and that's special and something to cherish :)It was the same for me as when Marina&Gwendal left competitions in ice dance, I felt a huge void although I knew there were some brilliant skaters out there and in the end Isabelle&Olivier became very close to my heart, and now Nathalie&Fabien, but it has never been the same. I guess it's like with first love, the passion, the unique emotions and that something extra special which makes your heart pump faster, gives you a lump in your throat and makes you feel just... so very different. You fall in love again, get married etc. But that special feeling from first love remains in you forever. That's exactly how Brian makes me feel metaphorically speaking  I love you

So yes, Brian, we WILL follow figure skating even after you, but know that YOU set the standard damn high and no one will ever take your special place in history and in our hearts Wink thanks
