That's great, Pelin! :super:

I have been skating for about 14 years now, and have been coaching for about 6 or 7 years. I haven't competed for a couple of years, but I continue to skate as much as I can and I am having a ton of fun with it! :jumping: Very Happy Lately I've been experimenting with different spin positions alot. :skating:

Flying sit spin is the hardest spin, I think. silent

I did not know that you were a skater, Pelin, that's wonderful that you enjoy the sport! :super:

Heidi -- euh... in fact a flying camel is how I once tore the muscles in my groin... suffice it to say that I do death-drops now. However, I commend your flexibility! lol!

Yes, flying sit spins are certainly very difficult! Especially to make look good! Neutral

Oooh... Ouch, Rach! That must have been terribly painful, your injury!! Yikes!!! pale I am fortunate that the worst thing I ever did was sprain my ankle once. (although, the doctor said it was a very bad sprain, and worse than if I'd broken the bone, so I couldn't walk for a long time!)

I'm still looking forward to seeing your death-drop photo, Rach! :super:

Death-drop photo came out blurry =( (all 30 or so of them) so you will have to wait Neutral *sigh* ... but eventually, I will have photos, I promise! Rolling Eyes

Waouh, you are very fortunate for injuries. Me, I have had fractures (stress and acute), tears, sprains, slipped disc, etc... Rolling Eyes pfft. I suppose that that is what comes of being very maladroit and a skater at the same time.

PostSubject: Re: Spins :)   18.11.07 12:24

can you help me? I would love to know sth more about recognizing the levels in spins. what makes a spin level 1,2,3?? or maybe you could give me some web site about this (I don't know where to look for it, on ISU site?? I have no idea)
and I have the same problem with footwork. I'd love to know more about it.
thanks in advance bisousfleurs

http://www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-152055-169271-nav-list,00.html

This should help you a bit I think! If you click on "Single & Pairs skating", then look for ISU communication 1445 - this has loads of detailed (& very long!) info on levels & how to get them.

Another interesting thing is "Programme Components Explanation" - which does exactly that - explains how the PCS's are to be judged.

{Put simply & briefly, I think spin & footwork levels depend on how many features (eg. change of edge or different positions in a spin, types of steps or number of turns in footwork) each element contains. If your spin contains the correct number of features for, say, a level four spin then you get the proper score for it, to gain +GOE you have to do it well.}

I'm sure Rach & Heidi will be able to tell us more about this interesting subject!

(edited because I can neither spell nor read!)

ISU international judgement system is based on a system of bullets (Fr. puce). Each bullet is an individual criterion that the skater can choose to fulfill during a spin/step sequence. The number of bullets that one is given credit for corresponds to the level. Rarely, there are obligatory bullets that MUST BE fulfilled to reach certain levels. (Usually, one has a choice of, say, six things and can choose any combination of them to make a level.) I will give you an example of this bullet system, using my own spins to illustrate. I am writing this from memory so I may not remember every single possible bullet offered for every spin. Please see the link that Sheena posted for that. Please note that I write the element's code, and then the name that the caller would use when calling. Bolded bullets are those that I chose to get the level. Bullets in red are obligatory to get a level 4.

1. CoSp4
Combination spin with no change of foot level 4

  • All three positions [sit, upright, camel] are attained
  • Change of edge
  • One difficult variation
  • Second difficult variation
  • Backward entry
  • Difficult entrance
2. CSSp4
Change-foot sit spin level 4

  • Backward entry
  • One difficult variation
  • Second difficult variation [must be on different foot from first variation
  • One position held for at least eight turns
  • Change of edge
  • Second change of edge (must be on different foot from the first change of edge).
3. CCoSp4
Change-foot combination spin level 4

  • Backward entry
  • Difficult variation
  • Second difficult variation (must be in different position than first difficult variation or intermediate position)
  • Change of edge
  • Second change of edge (must be on different foot from first change of edge)
  • Difficult entry
All three positions obligatory for level four. This does NOT count towards gaining a level though.*

*Last year one could get a bullet for "Four or more changes of position" and one HAD to have had that for Level four. This rule no longer exists, however.

FSSp3
Sit spin with flying entry level 3

  • Difficult variation of entry
  • First difficult variation
  • Second difficult variation
  • Change of edge
  • Taking off and landing on the same foot

GOE has it's own rubric. The judges cannot just go « hummmm that was nice I'll give it a... heu... +2 !! » Even though it seems like some of them still do.

You are welcome! bisousfleurs It was very good for me, too, because writing all of that helped me to finally memorise the element codes! (We need to write them on sheets that we turn in at the start of every competition.)
