| Article about Wednesday's hearing: | Quote: | | A judge ruled today that he cannot temporarily order The Ice House rink in Hackensack to allow two Israeli figure skaters to practice there while their discrimination lawsuit awaits trial. |
| Quote: | | A hearing on the case is scheduled for Dec. 5. |

| Quote: | | What I don't understand is how Oksana Baiul figures into to this, LOL. |
I just assume that anything questionable and strange that takes place at a rink will involve Baiul one way or another .
Seems like it would be easier for Chait and the Zaretskys to go elsewhere than to put up with whatever nonsense is going on at that rink. |

| | Blue Bead wrote: | Adellina....The article is stating that the Israeli skaters, the Zaretskys, have filed a lawsuit charging Nikolai Morozov with discrimination against them. Apparently Morozov had a hissy fit about some incident/misunderstading or whatever at the Ice House rink where all them were training and told the Zaretskys that they couldn't train there anymore...or something to that effect. It sounds like Morozov went off the deep end, LOL, and told them he didn't want to work on the same ice with them. Since when is Morozov an "official" at Ice House? That's new information to me. Mary C. |
:Merci2: Mary for your answer! Maybe he didn't want to train with them there, that doesn't mean that could be accused of rasism |

| Thanks, Karen, for the link to the brief summary on the hearing. I wonder how long it will be before any information about what brought all this on will trickle down or leak out? LOL It seems to me there is some sort of major dislike going on between Chait and Morozov but the question in my mind is...what was it? Didn't Chait and her partner train on the same ice, at one time, with Morozov when he was working for Tarasova? I seem to recall that such is the case. So, what's the big deal about doing it again?
I figured that Baiul is getting some sort of publicity out of all this---even if it's negative publicity, LOL, and considering that negative seems to be all she can get lately, I guess her input in this isn't all that surprising, LOL. It does keep her name out there before the public but what a sad way to do it.
Adelina...I think the racisism angle is something their lawyer cooked up, LOL, because I don't see any racist behavior in any of this..so far. That's not to say there isn't something there. It's just that the details such a charge are based on haven't emerged yet...if they ever do.

It depends how quickly the matter is settled. If it goes to trial, then the info will be public. Keep an eye on NJ court decisions at the web site http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/decisions/index.htm . But most legal documents are only available on Westlaw or similar fee-based service that law firms subscribe to.

When it comes to lawsuits, worry more about what your friends and acquaintances will do to you than your enemies .
Also keep in mind that Galit Chait's father is the head of the Israeli skating federation. |

| Thanks, Karen, for providing the link to the pdf for the Chait versus Morozov lawsuit. It's veeeery interesting.
After wading through all of that, I can't see that there is any corroboratory proof that anything Galit Chait claims to have happened, actually did happen, LOL. Unless Chait and her ice dancers can come up with proof, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the she and the Zaretski's were harmed in some credible way by whatever Morozov and the director of skating at the Ice House, their lawsuit doesn't have an ice cube's chance in Hell. The plaintiffs (Chait and the Zaretski's) must prove that they have been damaged and, at the moment, I don't see how that's possible. Morozov may well not want the Zaretski's to train on Ice House ice for personal reasons but I don't see anything in that online document that is proof of discrimination against the Israeli ice dancers simply because they are Israelis. Everything alleged in that document is either hearsay or unsubstantiated events which won't hold up in court.
BTW, does anybody know if Morozov has a vested interest in the Ice House, in the financial sense? If what the plaintiff's allege is true, he certainly acts like he does. I think it is curious that the owners of the Ice House have not been identified in that lawsuit. I would think if someone was bringing a lawsuit against two of my employees over who can and cannot use the facilities there, the owner would of the facility should be identified and overseeing any response on the part of the Ice House.
Even if Chait and her ice dancers did win, who in their right mind would want to train in a facility with employees who behaved like that? It certainly appears to be a hostile environment and not at all conducive to bringing elite skaters into top competitive form.
What a soap opera! LOL

| Yes, I hope the defense's 'answer to a complaint' is also made public (I believe the law firm representing the defense has another week or two to respond to the accusations). Their response to the accusation that Chait only gets paid $9 per hour will be interesting . Maybe Chait is trying to embarrass Morozov and therefore encouraging him to leave that rink. Chances are this matter will eventually be settled out of court with instructions that no one disclose the details. |
