Yulie, thank you for finally providing links and some proof that this is not a mere rumor.

I finally added it when it was available Smile

As I said before, I consider Tatjana Flade a reliable source even without an official story.

Samuel Contesti is retiring and apparently intends to coach (source, in Italian). He and his wife are expecting their second child this October and I wish them all the best. He was not my favorite skater, but he had his own style and tried to have fun on the ice.

Of the three men who medalled at 2009 Euros, Brian will be the only one still competing next season.

I've expected that they would do this at last, it was a matter of time. I can't imagine it right now, we'll see how it'll go.

Good luck to Samuel and his wife Smile Not my favourite skater either but he was always enjoyable to watch Smile

Maybe this change to allow vocal music will stop the blatant over-use of selections from Carmen and so many of the other classical musics that we've come to love/hate over the years Rolling Eyes Laughing Of course, I suppose, it will mean a new round of over-used vocal musics! Oh, joy (not) lol. In any case it will be interesting to see what all the competitors select when this new phase begins.

I'm not sure this is the right thread for it, as the subject is not directly related to skating, but it seemed as good a place as any:

Have any of you been following the story about Alex Schwazer being kicked out of the Olympics because of doping? Schwazer is the 50 km walk gold medalist from Beijing and tested positive for EPO a few weeks ago -this was made public just this week. Of greater interest to skating fans, he is also the longtime boyfriend of Carolina Kostner, who has been mentioned frequently in the media coverage about his test and the fallout.

Interestingly, Schwazer has been very repentant and forthcoming about what he did and why; none of the usual "I took tainted supplements" and all that. He says he's guilty, that he blames only himself, and that his career is over. It is not at all the usual response to this kind of thing! He has mentioned that Kostner was completely unaware of what he was doing and has been very supportive since he told her about the positive test. He also said that she's passionate about skating while he just raced because he was good at it.

One can only hope that this will not hurt Carolina's career, when things have finally started going her way in the last couple of years.

Here's one recent article on the subject.

I had heard about this story but didn't realise the skating connection - thanks Yulie!

I just read on FSU that Yretha Silete tore her ACL in training earlier this month and has undergone surgery to repair it and other knee damage. She is aiming to return next season and compete in Sochi (FFSG press release).

As we saw in Dai's case, the recovery from this sort of injury is a long and difficult process. I wish Yretha all the best with her rehab and eventual return to the ice; I really liked her last season and was hoping to see her continue to improve...

I had read that she was injured (someone had mentioned a collision with Romain Ponsart?) but hadn't realized it was quite so serious until the press release. ACL, MCL, and meniscus means she tore pretty much everything she could have. :( Such sad news...I too enjoyed her programs last season, and thought that she could've improved much with more experience under her belt. Ah well, at least she's young, and there isn't a lot of depth in France's ladies, so hopefully she'll make it back in time for Sochi and that it won't be her only shot at an Olympics.

In other news, Alissa Czisny is back on the ice this week for the first time since her hip surgery. Here's hoping everything goes well and she's able to make it to her GP assignment in Japan in late November!

I hope Yretha will be able to successfully return for her own sake, she's a young skater with a lot of promise and I enjoy her style. In addition, Team France will really need at least one of the ladies to step up if they're to have any hope of winning a medal in the team event at the Olympics.

That is most unfortunate - I wish Yretha a full recovery in time for Sochi!

I probably havent mentioned here, but during the Nice Worlds I really got into the skating of Misha Ge. I like his passion and he is also funny. This is an exhibition number of him:

Rather harsh words from DG - those poor coaches. Based on what they said at the end about offering to pay the skaters if they left Zazoui in Lyon or else cut them off, it's amazing to me that Brian managed to stay in Poitiers all these years and had coaches come to him (which is pretty incredible in and of itself).

I read the translation on FSU and the way DG speaks about other people - just terrible. I can't imagine someone in his position using such language. I'm afraid DG is ruining also P/B's future medaling chances by pissing off so many people (including their coaches) and I would guess all of the skaters are quite afraid of him, I mean I would. Maybe Amodio went to Morozov because otherwise his support would have been cut, too. And DG awarded him by making him the new French no1. DG seems such a shady person... Evil or Very Mad Yes, Brian has managed to stay in Poitiers, but who knows what it has costed him.
