This is a link to a very interesting article translated by a GS poster - an interview with Alexei Mishin. I refer you especially to the last paragraph where he talks briefly about Plushenko.

Thank you for this link, Sheena.

Regarding what Mishin states in that interview, it does not seem that he's all that certain Plushenko will return to cometitive skating, either. If Plush really is planning to return I would have thought he'd make his competitive return this year, if nothing more than to get the judge's opinions of his programs before he really needs to rely on them during the Olympic year. However, that isn't what he'd done, yet. From what Mishin says in that article it appears he thinks Evgeny has too many other skating things going on (shows and the like) to have the necessary time set aside to train for the Olympic.

Personally, I'm not sure Plush will return but if he does, I rather doubt he'll be able to pick up where he left off and win gold against the current crop of men competing now. I think he's deluding himself if he thinks he's just as good as he was before he took this hiatus from competition.

What on earth does Plush still want??!
He has already won everything and his knees must be in a terrible condition. He'd better to stay a professional skater and give up forever championships.

To put it short, the article says that Plush is busily training these days and has decided to come back. He is trying to regain his shape, following a special diet and has already lost 3.5 kilos. He is determined to lose 4 or 5 more.

For the most part, the article describes which jumps he did in several workouts and according to it he lands triples easily (in combination with doubles and triples). He is having some problems with a quadruple toeloop which often turns out to be short of rotation. Evgeny says that it is just a matter of practice and will be fixed within several workouts. He is also working on a quadruple Salchow.

My guess is that Pluschenko wants to be better than Yagudin, LOL. Since they both have an Olympic gold medal, for Evgeny to have another gold is a feat that Alexei can never obtain. Plus, a second gold medal would, most likely, gain him more offers to be part of non-competition televised programs and the substantial fees that come from them. IMHO Plush simply wants to be the "savior" of figure skating in Russia. It's got to be rough on his ego to sit by and watch Yagudin become the beloved person to the Russian people.

If Plushenko will back on the Olimic Game, and he manage win the competition I will say that he is the campion of the champions!!!!! And will NOT say anything bad about his programes... because it will be impossible to win gold after the long break , so I said it one more time.... If he will do it he became a MASTER on the Ice Very Happy
